Hagel Hintin’
New York Times blog, The Caucus, reports:
For months, Senator Chuck Hagel has been flirting with the idea of seeking the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. While other Republican candidates have crisscrossed the country – from Iowa to New Hampshire and back again – Mr. Hagel has largely stayed in Washington.
But his name has never fallen from the mix of prospective candidates.
We’ve just learned that on Monday, Mr. Hagel finally will make his political intentions known. Later this afternoon, he is scheduled to announce that he is holding a press conference in Omaha to “discuss his future plans.”
It’s another cryptic announcement from Mr. Hagel, whose options include:
A.) Throwing his hat into the ring for the Republican presidential nomination.
B.) Announcing his plans to seek reelection to the Senate in 2008.
C.) Stepping down from politics when his second term expires next year.
Several Nebraska Republicans close to Mr. Hagel are betting on A, but more than a few of his admirers in the Senate are betting on B.
We’ll find out Monday.

I know I’m looking forward to Monday. There are plenty of people out there hoping he runs for President.

Charlie, do you have an over/under for what the decision is for the three options?
Personally I’m thinking it’s “B.”

amazing. liberals like olberloon and msnbc, blitzer etc all seem to want chuck hagel ( a man more conservative then the entire field and even more the coulter or limbaugh) to run for the white house. why i wonder? because they think he will be a great leader? or because they fear rudy so much and they know hillary can at least beat chuck. rudy’s coming fellas, and no liberal can stop him( and no conservative for that matter) so brace your soft liberal minds for the inevitable, President Rudolph William Louis Giuliani III

Matt, your assertion that “liberals” want Chuck Hagel to run is completely baseless and laughable.
(I noticed that you are dutifully carrying Bill O’Reilly’s war of attrition against MSNBC, as conservatives have done against CNN for years.)
Personally, from a liberal standpoint, would not want Hagel to run for the presidency because he is the only potential Republican candidate with any legitimacy on the most important issue of the day: Iraq. (Although critics could use his antics on the non-binding resolution in the Senate earlier this year. An easy rebuttal from him would be that it was non-binding.)

Please Chuck get out of the neocon party, while you still have some kind of dignity.

matt - once again you display your remarkable ability to project parts of a debate that are not taking place here onto the intentions or meanings of the authors of this site. Matt O didn’t say anything about wanting Chuck Hagel to run for the White House.
Please, for the love of God, learn how to read before commenting. This is really too much.

well msnbc(with the exception of chris matthews) has taken a turn to the far left. and olbermann(the liberal mouthpiece) has been pushing and pushing for a hagel run even though he disagrees with him on all things not iraq. and to say he is the only one with legitumacy is foolish. mccain(remember the guy libs wanted as the VP) has far more credibility on warfare then anyone in the congress. how is it when war vets disagree with iraq, they are infallable, when they support it, they are not legitimate?
msnbc is the most biased network on tv, proving it again. just the other day msnbc did this:

amazing how a network can fall from grace so fast, and then act shocked when brian williams reeps the consequences.
and for loser matt # 2, it is clear that orteeega and the rest of you want a hagel or a bloomberg to run as a third party candidate so they can “ross perot” the republican effort. it would be nice is the socialist on this site could just admit it.

You responded: “it is clear that orteeega and the rest of you want a hagel or a bloomberg to run as a third party candidate”
You are truly illiterate.

hey browneye, its not about whats said its about what is done, this site, and other liberals mouthpieces, are trying to push for a third party candidate to weigh down the republican side. bloomberg, hagel, etc, this site and others should just admit what they are trying to accomplish instead of acting as cowards. stop letting your fear of giuliani’s potential cloud your judgement. he will be the republican nominee, so don’t waste your time.

I am not trying to push for any third party campaign, particularly from the right either as an independent Bloomberg run or a Unity08 (Hagel, McCain, Lieberman etc) run.
