The Unauthorized Christians United for Israel Tour

July 26, 2007

The Nation’s Max Blumenthal invaded the Christians United for Israel (CUFI) annual Washington-Israel Summit.

On July 16, I attended Christians United for Israel’s annual Washington-Israel Summit. Founded by San Antonio-based megachurch pastor John Hagee, CUFI has added the grassroots muscle of the Christian right to the already potent Israel lobby. [...]

But CUFI has an ulterior agenda: its support for Israel derives from the belief of Hagee and his flock that Jesus will return to Jerusalem after the battle of Armageddon and cleanse the earth of evil. In the end, all the non-believers - Jews, Muslims, Hindus, mainline Christians, etc. - must convert or suffer the torture of eternal damnation.

In the video, Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-Connecticut) says, “My dear friend, former colleague, who is always going to be my colleague; always going to be a worker, uh, for what is good in our society: Senator Rick Santorum.” (6:10)

Lieberman also compared CUFI leader John Hagee to Moses. (6:00)

Other quotes from convention attendees:

“We [U.S. and Israel] have a common enemy: the Muslim.” (6:23)

“We are fighting what is behind the Muslim people which is Satan because Satan is actually the one trying to destroy the Jewish race.” (6:36)

CUFI originally posted images of the Holy Land as part of their website’s header that did not include the Dome of the Rock.

CUFI website originally without the Dome of the Rock shrine. CUFI website after it was noted that the Dome of the Rock was missing.

Also, earlier this month, Max Blumenthal was at the College Republicans convention with “Generation Chickenhawk.”
