“Thank You for Your Service”
Rafael Noboa, a political consultant and Iraq War veteran, wrote an interesting piece at Open Left that asks the presidential candidates to stop thanking veterans for their service.
The “thank [you, your son, your daughter, etc.] for [your, their] service” has lost all value when you see candidates use it on the campaign trail. It is just another basic element of their stump speech and lacks the sincerity that the phrase deserves. It is something that I felt I could never authentically write about as I am not a veteran.
