A.J., er, "Carter,"

I understand the realities of his district. I live in his district. The common perception is that the San Joaquin Valley is wildly conservative but it is trending blue, especially in Tracy where Democrats from the East Bay are settling in as exurbanites.

Don’t get me wrong, the Daily Kos and The Huffington Post are great blogs and America benefits from having them. It is blogs like The Progressive Connection and Firedoglake that are the problem. It is all or nothing with them. If McNerney doesn’t completely adhere to their every demand, they make him walk the plank. Blinded by their own self-interests, progressives attack him like sharks. Can you progressives give the brother a break?! Can you take some time to understand the realities of his district? Can you take the time to understand his circumstances? Can you appreciate the fact that he chatted with the progressive bloggers for a couple hours, unlike 100% of the politicians in American? Do you know what the alternative to McNerney will be? Lets get back down to earth people.

Hank Shaw did do a pretty fair job on this article. He was rather fair during last year's race as well.

I remember waking up on November 8, the day after Jerry beat Pombo, and reading Hank Shaw's blog. It was the first time I read the phrase "Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton)" and I felt really proud because I had a part in that. But in all honesty, given McNerney on Iraq, I feel like that was feeling on November 8 has been tarred a bit.

Thanks Matt. I will fully admit that you have a much greater grasp on the district than I do. It is only a theory, one I expanded on in the comments.

Shaw did a decent job in the article, but this is a very nuanced dispute with McNerney.
