Courage Campaign Delivers 2,148 Initiatives to Governor
Sacramento-based blogger Julia Rosen, on behalf of the Courage Campaign, delivered 2,148 copies of the initiative, drawn up by the State Republican Party’s former lawyers, to the office of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at the State Capitol. Governor Schwarzenegger previously stated in the press on August 23 that he had not read the ballot initiative. Republican lawyers are trying to place the Presidential Electoral Reform Act (PERA) on the June 8, 2008 ballot. The plan would break up California’s 55 electoral votes by congressional district, effectively swinging 20 votes — the size of Ohio — in the electoral college to the Republicans.
Says Rick Jacobs, chairman of the Courage Campaign:
Thousands of Californians have made one simple request of the governor: please spend five minutes and read the initiative closely. The next time the Governor is asked publicly about this initiative, he will no longer have an excuse to play dumb about this partisan dirty trick.
