New York Mets Fans “Rickrolled”

Survey USA commissioned a poll to see how many Americans have experienced the incredible online phenomena known as “rickrolling.” Wikipedia describes:

Rickrolling is a prank and Internet meme involving the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song “Never Gonna Give You Up“. In a rickroll, a person provides a link they claim is relevant to the topic at hand which actually takes the user to the Astley video. It can also mean playing the song loudly in public in order to be disruptive.[1] A person who falls for the prank is said to be “rickrolled”.

The phenomena sprang up in both online and offline circles: Eastern Washington University basketball games and April Fools Day 2008. Fans of the phenomena gamed the New York Mets’ online voting through social networking sites and successfully rickrolled the team and their fans during the 8th inning stretch for yesterday’s game at Shea Stadium in Flushing, New York.

Though there were varying emotions about the song at Shea Stadium, the web communities behind Rick Rolling were shocked that it actually worked if only for that one time and declaring this Rick Roll “epic”.

Here’s to our successful rickroll!

Always good to read about baseball and its players, I’ve played since a kid..

Can I ask though – how did you get this picked up and into google news?

Very impressive, is it something that is just up to Google or you actively created?

Obviously this is a popular blog with great data so well done on your seo success..
