Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
Posted by Matt Ortega | May 9, 2008Congratulations to the many friends that receive their diplomas, degrees and doctorates in the recent and coming weeks. The video below is the Super Bowl riff on the children’s book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss, cut by actor Harrison Ford and a slew of football legends prior to Super Bowl XL in Detroit, Michigan in February 2006 — a few short months prior to my graduation from the University of Arizona.
Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is a favorite gift to give graduates of all levels because of the book’s message of pending discovery.
Oh, what a gift! Dr. Seuss, genius of whimsy, wrote and illustrated his final book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! in 1990. Right away, the magic of Seuss kicked in. It became a popular gift for graduates from kindergarten to college, according to Random House, which helps booksellers market the book. In the USA, 8 million are in print. Sales spike every spring; it’s No. 14 this week. “He is saying, ‘Go out there. You are going to be great,’ ” says Janet Schulman, his editor. “That’s how he led his own life.”
The track in the background is “You’re So Cool!” by Hans Zimmer.
