Senator Gordon Smith (R-Oregon) was asked about Republican vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, at his senatorial debate against Democrat, Jeff Merkley, and said she was a “great governor of California.”

A few takeaways from this bizarre statement:

(1) Gordon Smith doesn’t know who the governor of the state directly south of his?

(2) Gordon Smith thinks California, a state in near bankruptcy, is in tip-top shape under the actual unqualified governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger?

(3) Gordon Smith met Sarah Palin the same number of times as John McCain did before he selected her to be his vice president.
