Writers Get 4 Cents Per $19.99 DVD
In case you were wondering why The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Office were in reruns this week, this helpful video will explain why.
Here’s more from the crew of The Office:
Remember, Remember, the 5th of November
The compilation of scenes from the film V for Vendetta, a dystopian political thriller about a dictatorial ruler and ruling party in 21st century Britain, are set to Beethoven’s “1812 Overture.”
For the lyrics, check out Scott Horton’s No Comment at Harper’s Magazine. Read more about Guy Fawkes of the English Roman Catholics that attempted to destroy Parliament and bring down Protestant rule on November 5, 1605.
“Show Me That. Defend That”
Michael Douglas gives an incredible performance as “President Andrew Shepherd” on The American President, which was written by Aaron Sorkin. Material cut out from the film was later used in the NBC television series, The West Wing.
“They’ve Already Won”
It was some time ago that I referenced this incredible scene from the 1998 film, The Siege, starring Denzel Washington and Annette Benning. The Atlantic’s Andrew Sullivan found the clip on YouTube:
The transcript of the scene, featuring Washington (FBI Agent Anthony Hubbard), Benning (CIA Agent Elise Kraft) and Bruce Willis (General William Devereaux), is below. Read more »
Superbad is Super Good
Fellow millennial blogger, Adam Conner, says Superbad is a must-see. This cat knows what he is talking about.
Every generation seems to have one iconic movie comedy that gets to a special place, is talked about endlessly, quoted nonstop, seen over and over, and lives on forever as a true classic of its times. For this generation, Superbad is going to be that film.
The legend is true and for he, Adam of the Washington, D.C., is wise beyond his years.
Suck
A friend of mine produced a really great short by some very talented, young filmmaker/writer and actors called Suck. It was recently accepted into the Screamfest Horror Film Festival for 2007. Check out an unfinished cut of the short below.
They Live
Andrew Sullivan featured this scene from the film They Live starring former professional wrestler, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, stating the line, “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass … and I’m all out of bubblegum,” is the best movie line ever.
Another famous scene is “The Fight Scene” between Piper and actor Keith David. It was parodied in the Comedy Central cartoon, South Park, years later.
