California's 14th
About the District
From the edges of the Bay to the rolling East Bay Hills
To the west, it encompasses Hayward, Union City, northern parts of Fremont, unincorporated areas north of Hayward, and parts of San Leandro and Castro Valley. The district extends eastward over the hills, past the 580/680 interchange to cover Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore.
Matt grew up in Hayward off Harder and Mission, playing little league at Sorensdale Park and attending Harder Elementary. As a young field organizer, he organized communities in Pleasanton and Livermore on his first campaign in 2006.
A diverse community
California’s 14th Congressional District is one of the nation’s most diverse. According to 2024 data on the previous district boundaries:
- Asian residents account for over 40 percent of the population, followed by 25 percent Hispanic (of any race), and 22 percent White.
- 40 percent of the district is foreign-born.
- The median household income is over $137,000.
- Over 6 percent of our neighbors live below the poverty line.
- 32 percent of homes are over $1 million.
Impact of Proposition 50
California voters passed Proposition 50 in 2025 to counter Texas Republicans who heavily gerrymandered the state at Donald Trump’s urging.
The district got a haircut across the top of the district, losing parts of San Leandro and Castro Valley to the 12th Congressional District, and absorbed Dublin and a bit more of Fremont in exchange.
